This facility was designed to
enhance the comfort of the patients while maintaining excellent
scan quality.
Our MRI is a 1.0 Tesla Polaris short
bore magnet with the widest diameter bore in the industry
61CM. This "short bore" technology allows the
patient's head to be at or outside the bore for most exams.
- The claustrophobic failure rate
is exceedingly low at approximately 1%.
- The MRI scanner is contained in
a large room wit four outside windows. This creates a
very open atmosphere and floods the room with sunlight.
- Patients are provided with special
glasses that allow them to view the outside environment
during their scan.
- All our MRI Technologists are
registered and certified in MRI.
- Our MRI machine has been accredited
by the American College of Radiology.
What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging
and Magnetic Resonance Angiography?
MRI and MRA uses a large magnet,
radio waves and a computer to produce clear pictures of
the body's tissues and arteries. The images obtained allow
your doctor to "see inside" your body without
the use of surgery or radiation.
Please Read the Following Carefully
You cannot be examined if you have:
- A cardiac pacemaker
- Aneurysm clips in the brain
- Inner ear implants
- Metal fragments in one or both
eyes
- Some other medical prosthetic
devices may interfere with scanning. Please contact your
MRI or MRA eligibility at 314-842-8655 X270
How should I prepare for My Exam?
Unless instructed otherwise by our staff, you need not make
any changes in you daily routine. Follow your regular diet
and medications, as well as your work and play activities.
Plan on spending approximately one hour with us.
What will I experience?
When you arrive you will be asked to complete a questionnaire
regarding your personal medical history. You may be asked
to change your clothing as well as removing your jewelry,
watch and wallet. These items will be placed in a secured
locker. You will then meet with a certified technologist
, who will explain your exam to you and answer any questions
you might have.
The technologist will assist you
onto the scanning table, make sure you are comfortable,
and fit you with a headset for music whenever possible.
The table will slide forward and the exam will begin. As
the exam is performed, the only thing you will experience
will be the normal humming and thumping sound of the radio
frequency pulses as their start and stop. However, you will
not feel anything at all, the exam is painless! During the
scan you can communicate with us at all times. The technologist
will be just outside the scan room and will be able to see
you throughout the entire exam. So relax - many patients
sleep throughout the scan. If you wish to have a companion
accompany you during the exam, you may do so.
What happens After my exam?
You may leave and resume all of your normal activities.
Your exam will be interpreted by a radiologist, who will
report the findings to your personal physician. Your doctor
will then discuss the findings with you.
